http://mklibdems.focusteam.org.uk/files/2014/11/Douglas-McCall-2014-Cropped.jpg Cllr Douglas McCall has made the following statement on behalf of the Lib Dem Group.

Following the Milton Keynes local election results both the Labour and Conservative Groups approached the Liberal Democrats with a proposal to work with them.

The Lib Dems carefully considered both of these offers, but believe keeping our political independence is important, and have decided not to enter into a joint administration with either of the other parties.

Noting that Labour are the incumbents, the fact that Labour got a higher percentage of the popular vote than the Conservatives, and importantly that there is a greater overlap between the Lib Dem and Labour manifestos than that between the Lib Dem and Conservative ones, we have decided that we will allow Labour to continue in a minority Administration provided that they deliver on key policy issues in our manifesto such as housing, tackling homelessness and non-selective education.

Further discussions are taking place on the details of this arrangement.
