To mark the start of Bike Week 2025, Councillor Marie Bradburn is encouraging members of the community to get cycling for benefits to health, the environment, and the city.

This week, (9-15 June) is Bike Week, the annual event by Cycling UK highlights the many benefits of cycling and how easily it can fit into daily life.

The week celebrates cycling as a healthy, environmentally friendly, and fun approach to active transport.

Councillor Marie Bradburn, who represents Bradwell ward, said:

“Cycling isn’t just a way of getting around, it helps us build a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.

“Getting active and spending time in nature boosts our health and wellbeing, all whilst shaping a more sustainable future for the city by reducing carbon emissions and improving the air we breathe.”

The push for more pedal power comes as, data released by MK Community Foundation revealed that 37% of greenhouse gas emissions in Milton Keynes come from transport, this is higher than the national average of 31% for England.

As part of Bike Week 2025 celebrations, residents are invited to join a family bike ride on Saturday 14 June, organised by Woughton Community Council.

The bike ride will start at 11am at the school car park near Grove Surgery in Netherfield.

Councillor Marie Bradburn, continued:

“Everyone is welcome, no matter your age or ability, so please join us if you’d like. Small changes can lead to big improvements for us and for our city.”
